Artist: DIVISION
ALPHA
Album: Palingenesy
Year: 2006
When you say Industrial Metal you say Division Alpha,
and vice versa. Although they already had three full
lenghts released before this one, Division Alpha still
is one of France’s best hidden secrets. Their mix of 1/3
metal, 1/3 industrial and 1/3 electro already caught me
some time ago, and with their preverious album ‘Replika’
they’ve proven that they are ready for the break through,
but unfortunately this didn’t really happened. Will
Palingenesy be able to change that?
‘From Below’ is an excellent opener, with bashing beats,
mechanized sampling and great dark vocals and guitarwork.
The outro has a classical touch. ‘The Void’ contains
excellent industrial beats and sampling, mixed with
agressive guitar parts. The vocal parts make the
sampling sound even darker. ‘Instinct’ is a very dark
song, with a surprisingly powerful chorus: fast beats
and powerful guitarparts suddenly wakes you up out of
the trance the first part of this song brought you in.
This is my favourite track of this album. ‘Existing
Connections’ is more electro based. The guitarparts are
very well chosen. ‘Intra – Polarity’ has a Nine Inch
Nails-sounding intro, and the rest of the song kind of
follows this concept. The main difference though, is
that Division Alpha dares to be more experimental with
the guitar parts, which turned out to be quite
succesfull. ‘Genezium’ contains the best guitarwork of
the album. The sampling is very EBM likely and pretty
much mastered to the background on this track. ‘Zero
Trace’ contains a big dosis of electro. This track has
danceable rhytms and powerful guitars, and a bouncing
bassline. ‘Twelve Mirrors’ is again a very atmospheric
and dark track, with some crazy programming and
beautiful vocal lines. ‘Termination’ is a track with a
heavy guitarsound, and bouncing programming tracks. One
of the more powerful tracks of this record, and as a
bonus there’s also a nice videoclip of this track on the
album! ‘Palingenesy’ is the last and the title track of
this album. This is an instrumental, very mechanized
track with cool and surprisingly sample parts.
For people who were saying that Division Alpha wasn’t
able anymore to improve their stuff, and to stay
original: Palingenesy is the ultimate proof that you
were wrong with your judgements. I wonder when this band
finally leaves the shadow for the bright, so people will
get to know these talents more and more. Does life get
any better than this?
