Artist: ASYLUM
Album: Left To Parasite
Year: 2008
Asylum is one of the currently two (!) Croatian bands
that are mentioned on our page. Regular viewers of this
webzine might remember the review of their first demo "Madman
Industry" some time ago, which brought us decent and
promising songwriting but a bad production. Therefore,
Asylum took another shot, resulting in a new three-track
EP that comes with a better production. On 'Left To
Parasite', we find two songs that were originally on 'Madman
Industry' as well, plus a brand new song.
'Wicked Passion' already was one of my favorite tracks
on the "Madman Industry" release, so I was glad to find
out that this track was featured on this EP as well -
with the better production. The track has a dark
atmosphere, strong guitarlines and fresh keyworks. The
vocals go from clean and melodic to yet understandeable
grim grunting. The gentle drumming fits the track
excellently, and as well the uptempo parts. 'Butterfly
Dance' is a new song, which sounds a bit different. It
opens with happy sounding keylines and a heavy bassline,
which are spread all over the track. The soft vocal
lines fits the song well, as well the wellplaced wicked
guitarsolo. But still, a bit of a strange sounding track.
'Filth In Existence' was as well on the "Madman Industry"
demo. A quick flashback to the demo version brings me
the memory of a strange and unfitting industrial
intermezzo, which is fortunately better in the new
version. Still, I think it's a bit strangely placed
within the track. Overall the song switches from uptempo
metal parts with brutal vocals, to softer wave and
gothic elements with clean vocals. Not a bad track at
all overall.
It was a delighted experience for me to hear Asylum with
a more clean production (the production is still not
superb, but it is a major improvement from the demo!).
Specially on 'Wicked Passion', you're able to hear much
more elements within the song, which is essential in the
more softer parts. Asylum passed this test with ease,
and hopefully we can expect a new release with a little
more than three tracks within the near future!
