Artist: HELALYN
FLOWERS
Album: Plaestik
Year: 2007
When I read the news a while ago that Helalyn Flowers
was signed to the Alfa-Matrix label, I was one of the
people who weren’t surprised at all. Already keeping a
close eye on them since their debut EP ‘Disconnection’,
I was convinced about their talent and potential within
no time. The label deal will of course result in a debut
full-lenght album, but before that there’s first the
release of a limited EP, blessed with the name ‘Plaestik’.
It has one new track, two re-recorded old tracks and a
bunch of remixes of Implant, Angelspit a.o..
The release opens with the brand new ‘DGTal Blood’ track.
According to the band, this is a prelude to how the new
album will sound, and if this is true I can’t wait for
it now already. A very strong guitar riff mixed with
bouncing programming works and recogniseable vocal lines
are brought together in an excellent and wicked
industrial metal track. A special mentioning goes out to
the little guitar solo – excellently added! ‘Voices’ is
a cool mix of electronic parts, beautiful vocal lines
and some heavy guitar parts. Compared with the version
on the E-Race Generation promo, the guitar parts sound
more downtuned and heavier, which make this track a
little darker. ‘E-Race Generation’ was also on that same
promo. It’s an easy listening track, with gothic rock
and electro elements. The sampling remains as wicked as
before, and the chorus remains as catchy as before, so
the song remains as kickass as before.
The Angelspit remix of ‘E-Race Generation’ is filled
with electronic parts, leaving the metalish attitude of
the original far behind. The Sthilmann remix of ‘Voices’
is better in my opinion. A danceable and harsh track,
with the same atmosphere as the original. The Headscan
remix of ‘DGTal Blood’ is a bit influenced by the future
pop and the synth pop sides. Nothing too special in my
opinion, but nice to listen to. The Rise of the Fallen
remix of ‘E-Race Generation’ is the best remix in my
opinion. Lots of elements of the original track are
hidden within the song, and the added programming and
keylines make the song darker and more danceable. The
Neikka RPM remix of ‘Voices’ was also a positive
surprise for me. Sick electronic elements are added to
the sweet and gentle vocal lines, which turns out to be
a surprisingly good combination. The Implant remix of
‘E-Race Generation’ can be named the 2nd best of the
album. A nice mix between the styles of Implant and
Helalyn Flowers, with the characteristic electronics
from out of Belgium and the sweet attitude from out of
Italy.
A nice EP for the fans, because they get a good prelude
for the new album. A nice EP for the dj’s, because they
have some cool new remixes to share with the dancefloor.
Probably a less nice EP for the reviewers, because
reviewing remixes ain’t the cutest thing ever. Luckly,
I’m also a fan and a DJ besides a reviewer. What about
you? Order it now, because this is limited!
