Artist: MUTE SERVANT
Album: Promo 2006
Year: 2006
The search for new music never stops, and results in
lots of crazy and cool projects. Some time ago I found (or
actually they found me!) a brand new project from
Denmark named Mute Servant. Mute Servant exists of two
people, who say to be influenced by bands like Ministry,
Tool and Das Ich and even Nevermore! Quite an
interesting combination, don’t you think? Reason enough
for me to gave a closer listen to their brand new Promo
2006!
‘Eye See’ is the first track of this promo. This is an
easy listening industrial rock song, with dark based
guitar riffs and bashing drums. The excellent clean
vocals and some industrial loops here and there complete
this track. The Tool influences are clearly hearable
here and there, but don’t be surprised to recognise some
modernized Killing Joke and Sisters of Mercy influences
from time to time! When I was reading the lyrics of
‘Panic’, I was expecting some gothic rock song filled
with sorrow, but the music showed me otherwise. It
contains metal guitars mixed with industrial drum tracks
and dark melodic vocals. The best thing about this track
in my opinion is the fact that they managed to combine
some very different elements out of different music
directions in one track, without it sounds
‘unfitting’... so we don’t have to ‘panic’ about this!
‘Soulless’ is in my opinion the best track on this
promo. It contains heavy guitarwork and bashing drum
parts (close to industrial death) on one side, and on
the other some easy listening EBM likely stuff. All this
together is mixed in a fresh sounding song, which will
be appreciated by fans of bands like Krell, Malmonde and
Oomph! for sure. ‘Anymore’ is already the last track of
this four-track promo. It’s maybe the most industrial
song of the record, with lots of dark ambient and dark
metal influences. It shows a different, and more soft
side of this band if you ask me, but I must admit that I
also like this side of Mute Servant. I must say that I
really enjoyed listening to this promo, and to me these
guys have proven their song writing talents already with
ease. If you became curious, check their MySpace at
www.myspace.com/muteservant and give these guys a
close listen, it will not be a waste of time.
