Artist: PROMONIUM JESTERS
Album: EP2010
Year: 2010

My very first introduction with this Canadian cyberpunk formation was their song on the split 7" with Adaptive Reaction, which left an excellent impression on me. Therefore, having to review a four-track EP of Promonium Jesters didn't sound like a punishment for me at all. Some information about this band: they're already existing since 1995, and have released over ten albums through their own record label. Having played numerous shows in Canada, they say their live show should be a special experience on it's own.

This EP2010 release starts with the song named 'Heartbeatings'. It's built on a spine of straight forward drums and a downtuned bassline, while added minimal riffing and schizophrenic vocal samples. 'Rust' is a decent midtempo track, coming with a repetitive and recogniseable bassline and bashing drums, accompanied by distorted sampling, raw vocal lines and subtile riffing. The little wave influenced bridge that lays a little over halftime sounds surprisingly fresh. 'Scar Master' is a dark atmospheric track, with diverse vocal lines and an innovative bassline. The dark attitude of the song is underlined by the sampling and keylines, as well by the distorted attitude of the drums. 'Omnicide' gives us a mix of electro and industrial metal, with subtile added riffing and vocals. Overall again a decent song, but it's lenght of eight minutes and ten seconds are just a few minutes too long in my opinion.

The 'EP2010' turned out to be a little different than I expected because of the bassline overdose, but it certainly didn't dissapoint me. The old school fans certainly will enjoy this one. Cyberpunk like you won't hear everyday.
