Artist: PSYBER
Album: New Wave Noir
Year: 2009
Psyber is a new and exciting formation hailing from Romania. Originally born as a metal band fusing drum'n'bass influences, the band slowly changed its style to electro with influences from the metal corner. 'New Wave Noir' is the first proof of existence of this band, a 3 track EP self-released in 2009.
'Burning Chrome' is the opening track of the release. It comes with decent drum'n'bass drumming, recogniseable electro samples and wellplaced keylines - resulting in an accessable and danceable attitude overall. 'Heartbrake System' opens with darkwave sounds, to be followed by a mix of wave and electro blessed with a drum'n'bass rhytm and attitude. 'Chiba City Blues' is maybe the most accessable track on the release, coming with a relaxing synth pop attitude. The track is built on a spine of gentle keylines and easy going though powerful drumming, and implants a certain degree of darkwave near the end of the song.
With 'New Wave Noir', Psyber brings you something I can't really put my finger on. Sometimes it's (dark) electro, sometimes it's drum'n'bass or breakbeat, sometimes it's wave and sometimes it's even synthpop, but most of all it's something you would probably like. Don't let the absence of guitars spoil the fun and give this one a chance.
