Artist: QUROQ
Album: Soznanie Kazhdogo
Year: 2009
Oh how we love the internet. It gives you every source of information you could ever ask for when you're looking for a band. Well, not for Saint-Petersburg's QuRoQ, unless if you know Russian. This six-piece says to play a mix of "industrial and thrashcore", and released their four-track EP 'Soznanie Kazhdogo' in summer 2009.
'Maska' has the honour of opening this release. It provides a mix of thrash metal and hardcore, with a tiny drum'n'bass intermezzo and very powerful riffing. The diverse drumming and the industrial sampling are essential parts of this track. 'Terror' mixes the forces of industrial death metal and cyber metal with a thrashy approach, resulting in a decent and pretty original track. It contains wellplaced sampling, diverse riffing and spastic drumming - all together sounding surprisingly accessable. 'Grad_Antichrist' is a more sensitive downtempo track, bringing the severe use of clean guitars and the art of making midtempo drumming still sound powerful. The samples overall on this track are somewhat disturbing, which is a real pity. The release ends with the thrashy title track - 'Soznanie Kazhdogo'. It's a track blessed with an old school attitude, bringing thrash metal to the max with tiny industrial influences.
Overall, 'Soznanie Kazhdogo' didn't dissapoint me at all, but didn't manage to fully convince me either. The main issue I have with this release is probably the vocals. The clean vocals sound like they can use some more training, and the raw thrashy screams are just not fitting my personal taste. Overall, QuRoQ brings you pretty decent stuff, that many industrial metal fans would probably dig.
