Artist: RON [K]
Album: Grace
Year: 2009
Ron [K] is a multi-instrumentalist of 19 years old, from L.A., California. He's influenced by bands including KMFDM, Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly, as well by bands such as Primus, The Clash and Pink Floyd. After some years, Ron [K] decided to team up with Todd MacKenzie (drums, synths), Eric Gillingham (bass, guitars) and Leah Page (vocals) to create a brand new addition to the electronic rock/industrial scene. The first proof of existence comes in the form of this two track single, named "Grace".
'Grace' turns out to be a pretty accessable track, which is very wave and electro influenced. It consists of atmospheric keylines, bashing programming and minimal though essential riffing. The clean female vocal lines are in perfect harmony with the music, and show nice interaction with the subtile added male vocal lines. The other track on this release is a so-called 'Used Mix' of the very same 'Grace' track. It's slightly more danceable and electronic, without losing the original accessibility and atmosphere.
It's always hard to judge a band from just one track and one remix, but I'll give it a try. With 'Grace', Ron [K] managed to leave an excellent impression to me. Musically it shows to be a good alternative for bands such as Diva Destruction and Helalyn Flowers. I'm hoping to hear more of this band, just to make sure they're not a one hit wonder.
