Artist: TERRODROWN
Album: Ruined Nation
Year: 2006
For the people who have never heard of Terrodrown, no
worries. I had never heard of them either, before I
accidently came upon their website. And, after some
email conversation, they made it possible for me to tell
some more about them, because there is some information
written on their demo I just recieved. Terrodrown is a
three piece band from France, who mixes industrial black
metal with ambient. Their one and only demo so far is
called ‘Ruined Nation’, and some online spying learned
me that this demo recieved mostly positive reviews so
far.
After the intro, the demo gets its real kick-off with
the song ‘Chtonian Civilization’. When I looked in my
media player and I noticed that this track was almost as
long as 8 grindcore songs (11 minutes and 22 seconds!)
it scared me a little, because I feared that it would
start to sound boring sooner or later. But fortunately,
my fears were misplaced. This song brings lots of
different worlds together. There are agressive and
chaotic war-metal parts (Revenge, Conqueror, Axis Of
Advance) followed my midtempo industrial black metal (Avernum,
Impure Domain) parts and atmospheric ambient parts
without any black metal! Inbetween, we find some melodic
and atmospheric black metal parts and crazy guitarwork
too. Neither you love the song or you hate it, fact is
that you don’t hear them very often like this one! Do I
love it? Yes! ‘Cult Of Djihad’ is the next track, with
his 5 minutes and 31 seconds it has almost half the
lenght of the preverious one! And it’s quite surprising
stuff again to say the least! Excellent industrial metal
drumtracks are mixed with black ‘n’ roll guitarwork. The
faster parts are crushing, while (after 3 minutes and 20
seconds) the ambient part is creating a whole different
atmosphere around the song. Very decent! ‘Silent Shrill’
is an ambient intermezzo, and the song afterwards, ‘Ark
Ov Vultures’, has an orchestral opening. Afterwards,
some crazy industrial black metal song has been drilled
through my ears. Again, midtempo parts are mixed with
crazy fast parts and atmospheric and melodic parts. The
excellent black metal guitarriffs and vocals take their
own part on this track, while in the end the ambient
returns again. The final song turned out to be an
ambient one again, and when this song finished I must
say that this demo has overruled all my expectations!
Very decent, very original and very cool stuff! Get this
one by mailing to terrodrown@laposte.net and let it
overrule all your expectations as well!
