Freak XXI is a Spanish industrial metal band, existing
out of five members. After their five-track debut 'El
Anfitrión', that came out in 1998, it took them two
years to release their first full-lenght called
'Semihumanos'. It's blessed with 10 tracks, all in
Spanish.
'F.F.B' is an uptempo, pretty much intro track, with
fast and wicked programming and strong guitar and vocal
lines. The title track that follows is more accessable.
It has a heavy bassline and strong guitar sound, with
recogniseable vocal lines and some experimental FX stuff.
'Inferno' opens with dark electro sounds. What follows
is a song that's driven on strong guitarwork and
powerful programming. The vocal lines are nearly
synchronised with the guitarlines. 'Desconectado' has an
old school touch, specially given by the sampling and
programming. 'Rib Dancer' is again more modern and
uptempo, with wicked guitarwork and insane programming.
'Sufre El Dolor' is again more easy going and tranquil,
with an old school touch and modern sampling. 'The
Portal' is old school as well, but different. It is more
build with a sensitive touch. It contains orchestral
works, beautiful vocal lines and vocal parts and easy
going programming works. The closer you get to the end,
the more powerful the guitars appear to be. 'Rocket Baby'
is a midtempo cyber metal track, with powerful drumming
and heavy guitarwork. The chorus and after-chorus are
the most powerful parts of the tracks. 'Matriz' is
probably the best track on the record, with wicked
sampling and programming and very powerful guitarwork.
The vocal lines are accessable and slightly catchy,
which is a good thing for the song overall. 'Me Estoy
Mareando' is some crazy instrumental outro, with
experimental FX works and programming.
Although 'Semihumanos' is all in Spanish, it has a
certain amount of catchyness on it, and it's very
accessable stuff. Freak XXI created already an own style,
which could become very popular in both the underground
and the more mainstream part of the scene. It's probably
hard to find this album if you don't live in Spain, but
I am encouraging you now to at least give it a shot.
