About three years ago, Blacklodge was still a rather
unknown name. But then, they released their Login:Satan
album and everything changed. Their Satanic industrial
black metal became pretty wellknown in short time, and
people were already asking for a new release! And, a new
release came in the end. After a label change and some
more ‘contagious and avantgardistic works’ in their
music (taken from their biography – don’t blame me!)
they releases >SolarKult< upon mankind. Did they
musically took a step forward? Well, at least they did
with the artwork, now lets see for the other things.
And my friends, they didn’t took a step forward but they
took a jump forward! They decided to leave the ‘lets try
to put as many drum machine hits in our songs’ strategy
behind, and it really did work out well! Of course,
there are still some killer blasting parts, but the main
part remains experimental and... indeed avantgarde and
contagious! We find industrialized parts of old school
black metal, midtempo black metal and even some parts of
d-beat sounding drums and ambient intermezzo’s! And then
I haven’t even mentioned the danceable electro
influenced parts! Talking about variation, huh? The
guitarwork mainly exists of some excellently boozing
black metal riffs, while the hysterical vocals bring you
into their own created dimension. Furthermore, I would
like to state that it’s hard to find good albums that
are longer than sixty minutes. I think you will all
agree.. but then, here comes the surprise. This album
takes over six minutes more material than an album of an
hour. Since I listened the album for the first time
(about three hours ago) I couldn’t stop listening to it.
This is an absolute masterpiece, with ‘Mission’, ‘Iron
Icon’ and ‘Martyr Complex’ as the most brilliant
highlights. This is your perfect soundtrack for the
dark, mechanized future that awaits us all!
