Artist: STILLBORN
CHILD
Album: Démo n°1 Stillborn Child
Year: 2004
For the people out there who are craving for some new
cyberpunk acts on Industrialized Metal, please meet
Stillborn Child from France! This French trio is already
playing stuff since 2002 and released a first demo in
2004... which actually is this one that will be reviewed!
They say to mix all kind of things together (punk –
metal – industrial – techno – gothic – trance – electro
– rock ‘n’ roll) and to be influenced by bands like
Front Line Assembly, The Kovenant, Punish Yourself, Nine
Inch Nails and... The Smashing Pumpkins and the Sex
Pistols!
When I listen to their music, it’s not hard to hear the
Punish Yourself, Nine Inch Nails and Front Line Assembly
influences. Weird beats are flying into your ears from
all sides around you, accompanied by an electric guitar
and some electro sampling. So where are the punk
influences I hear you ask? Well, maybe in the (from time
to time false) clean vocals that are all over the
record. Here we already have the main thing what I have
against this band. The grunts sound more like gargling
with a metal plate in your mouth, while the clean vocals
sound unfitting to the music. And it’s really a shame,
because the easy listening cyber punk music sounds
pretty decent. I don’t feel like saying more about this
demo, because there simply isn’t much more to tell about
it. This is not something that I would listen to a lot
in the future. It’s not that bad, but still far away
from convincing.
