Artist: SUPRA PLAZMA
Album: Procosmic
Year: 2006
Some people might remember the review for Supra Plazma's 'Hysteria In Galaktica Satania' a while ago. For the ones who don't, a small introduction ; Supra Plazma is a three-piece hailing from Kaliningrad, Russia. The band seems to be keen on making descriptions as weird as possible ; where on the 'Hysteria In Galaktica Satania' debut release they described their music as "blackened cosmic thrash metal", for this follow-up 'Procosmic' they made a tiny turn to "blackened cosmic heavy metal". This new album was created and recorded in the time of just seven days.
After the orchestral and electronic sampled intro, the release kicks off with 'Angel Of Darkness II - Executioner'. It provides us haunting keylines, recogniseable drumming and diverse vocal lines, giving us a mix of black metal and cyber metal. 'Earth Under Attack' is more of a dowmtempo track, with heavy riffing and vocal lines and wellplaced keylines. Overall it has an old school death metal attitude, with mixtures of industrial and electro and sometimes even a little wave. 'Torno/Massacre' opens with tiny touches of breakbeat, to be followed by a decent midtempo cyber metal track. It consists of powerful riffing, wellplaced samples and matching and diverse drum- and vocal lines. 'Happy End Of The World' is a catchy mix of death and heavy metal riffing and a wave approach of sampling and keylines. The growling vocal lines give the song a certain power boost that is essential. 'Ergonomic Ecology' delivers a mixture of electro metal and wave, blended together with decent and powerful midtempo drumming and screaming black metal vocals. Overall the song is surprisingly accessable. 'Phoenix' is an all instrumental track, build on orchestral keylines and repeatative programming while added diverse guitarwork, including a very wicked solo at the end. The release ends with a disturbing outro called '(OUTrO)F SPACE', which shows influences from out the cyber and ambient corners.
With 'Procosmic', Supra Plazma delivers a decent record. The only problem I have with this - I feel that the band has much more potential than it's showing. They say most of the songs are written within an hour or two, which results in the fact that no track on this album is really jumping out of it. Anyway - definitely not a bad attempt at all, and I am wondering how this band would sound with a more clean production and a more elaborate time of songwriting. If full Russian lyrics don't disturb you too much, why not give this one a shot too?
