Artist: SYMPTOMS
Album: Symptoms EP
Year: 2006
There’s something industrial in the Italian skies. It’s
like a poison that you breathe without noticing it, but
suddenly it takes control and posession of you and it
urges you to create an industrial metal project! Dope
Stars Inc., No Forgiveness, Ensoph, Neon Synthesis and
T3chn0ph0b1a are already pretty known victims of this
toxic virus, and Symptoms from Vicenza is definitely
infected as well. This duo says to mix industrial, rock,
metal and ambient while to be influenced by Stapping
Young Lad, Godflesh and more. Impossible? No.
Inappropriate? We’ll know it after the review.
‘Nausea’ is the first track of the release. It’s a
brutal industrial black metal track, with crazy
programming and wicked guitarwork. The keylines are
wellplaced, while the vocal works lay inbetween black
and death metal. The more midtempo little intermezzos
are taking care of the variation within the track.
‘Lymph Nodes Increase’ comes up next. It’s a modern
industrial metal track (think of Dagoba / Zuul FX, but
more black/death metal influenced) with cool guitarwork,
bashing programming and extreme vocal parts. ‘Headache’
follows that path with ease, and with a title like this
you might know what the neighbours will be getting very
easely. ‘Numbness’ is a little more atmospheric, without
losing the brutality. The programming is a little more
midtempo, but with the heavy distorted guitarwork and
the cold sampling parts the song still fits inbetween
the others. ‘Fever’ is an easy listening outro, with
metal, ambient, electro and industrial touches.
Something brutal was blasted through my speakers,
without me expecting anything. Fortunately I still have
all my body parts and brain cells (well, I hope) though.
This EP was a really promising one for the future. Fans
of bands like Aborym, Blacklodge, Next Waste Dimension,
Dagoba and cybergrind like Nunwhore Commando 666 and
M.A.C. of Mad should check this stuff out immidiately.
Mario, one ‘Pizza Symptoms’ for me please!
