Artist: THE BOMBS OF ENDURING FREEDOM
Album: The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom
Year: 2007

The ones among you who keep (or kept) a closer eye on Ewigkeit didn’t had any boring times lately. First there was the release of the killer ‘Conspiritus’ album and the video for ‘It’s Not Reality’, and not long after a video appeared of Mister Fog burning all his past record deals (including the one Ewigkeit had at that time with Earache Records). Not too long after thát, the announcement came that Ewigkeit has reached its end, but that already a new project was born: The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom. October 12, 2007 will bring us the self titled debut album of this new plague, limited to 665 ‘slightly less evil’ copies. In the press sheet, we’re welcomed for a journey to the American dream slash reality of today: from Guantanamo Bay to the television sets at home and back to the religious suicide and silly wargames. Unfortunately there were no flight tickets for this event added to the package, but don’t worry – the CD will do.

After the ‘Climate of Fear’ intro, the album continues with ‘Identity Theft’. It’s a catchy and uptempo track, which contains a strong guitar riff, powerful programming works and melodic keylines. The vocal lines have a certain catchy attitude, which is well supported by the clean and melodic vocal works. ‘Beware The Bombs...’ is an instrumental track (over seven minutes long!) which contains elements of metal, industrial, (old school) EBM/electro and even a little ambient. Some samples of falling bombs are slightly added here and there to give the track the identity that it deserves with a name like this. ‘Religious Suicide’ comes up next. Lyrically it gives you a small look into the brains of a suicide bomber, but musically there’s some more complexity hidden in the track. Diverse sampling, wicked guitarwork (and I’m not only talking about the solo after the first chorus – keep a closer listen!), bashing drums and cold keyworks who bring a certain atmosphere to the chorus. ‘Guantanamo Bay International (Suspect Package Holiday)’ turns out to be my favourite track of the record. The track has a little sad atmosphere due to the vocal parts and the EBM sampling which is hidden here and there. The chorus is catchy, the guitarwork is extremely cool and diverse, and the drumparts manage to mix this all together into one Hell of a classy song which is a mixture of many alternative styles. ´Television´ is (lyrically) meant as a kick in the ass of todays society, and more or less a preech to switch off the television and to wake up in the real world. Musically it consists of a heavy protounding bassline, some small ambient samples, midtempo programming and guitarwork that´s a little less ´present´ than on the preverious tracks. ‘Wargames’ is again a more uptempo track. It is built upon crazy programming and a very strong bassline. Furthermore, it contains wicked sampling and keyworks, and some little tunes reminding to a wellknown Nintendo game in the end. It’s the only track that hasn’t got the lyrics in the booklet, which is a shame because I think they could be quite interesting. ‘The Rapture’ has an ominous intro, followed by atmospheric and preaching parts and a catchy and powerful chorus. It’s one of the more ‘accessible’ tracks of the record. Next up comes ‘G.I. Jesus’. Its a track with a sarcastic undertone towards the U.S.A. On a high exception, I quote some lyrics here: ‘Fighting for the cause of the U.S.A., G.I. Jesus is on his way!’. Musically the track sounds like a cartoon theme, introducing some brand new super hero who will save the world. It’s probably the weirdest track on this record, but the sense of humor really applies to me. Ironicly, the CD ends with the song ‘End Times’. It’s a cool uptempo industrial metal track, with EBM sampling, strong guitar- and bassparts and melodic vocal lines. The vocal lines fit extremely well with the song and the rest of the album.

It’s not very often that a mixture of industrial, EBM, metal and ambient sounds this ‘natural’. James Fogarty already proved with past projects (The Meads of Asphodel, Ewigkeit) that nobody has to teach him the meaning of the words ‘songwriting’ and ‘originality’ anymore. This album is strictly limited to 665 copies and is only available through their official site. Take some advice for me: (pre-)order this album now before it’s sold out already. It’s definitely worth the wait and the money, because unfortunately with all these new bands showing up these days it’s getting harder and harder to find this kind of quality waiting to be picked up. I do wonder how many orders will be from out of America though...
