Artist: VIGILANTE
Album: The Heroes Code
Year: 2005

Vigilante is a band that I follow with special interest since I reviewed their impressive Promo-2005. Walking that path I heard a NIN cover, a Die Krupps cover and some impressive remixes they made for Golem 101 and Alien Product. But nowadays, their debut album (The Heroes Code) is out and I really am excited about this fact!

The Heroes Code kicks off with a dark sounding intro, but after little more than two minutes it flows over into the first real song, called "Survive". This is a very future pop sounding song, it invites you to hit the dancefloor immidiately. Catchy melodies are mixed with blastbeats and powerful guitars, all packed in a dark sounding song. Next up is "The Other Side", a song I recognised of the promo. In that review I had nothing but good words for it, and this hasn't changed. A catchy chorus, powerful intermezzo's and trance sounding sampling. More metal than the preverious song, that is for sure. The next track, "One Good Reason", was also on that mentioned promo. Maybe the song with the most beautiful lyrics of the entire record, but when it comes to the music it is one of my less favorites. Don't get me wrong, it is a good song, but the vocals could be used a little better here and there, and the song is just not powerful enough for me. "Lack of Faith" opens with a suspicious making intro before the blastbeats take control with the sampling. This is a pretty different song: less tempo, more despair and sorrow. Maybe the most 'goth' song of the record, but it definitely is an impressive one! Love the keys intermezzo! You hardly notice that "Still Alive" has started in the meantime, because it floods into eachother perfectly. This song has a more robotic sound, and the blastbeats are on its best in this song. Sorrow mixed with some EBM sampling on a brilliant way. "Answers" was my favorite track of the 'Promo-2005', and when this track passes by I immidiately remember why. Cold sampling, vocals which express the lyrics in a beautiful sound and of course the guitars make this into maybe the best industrial song of 2005. "Humanity" sounds futuristic in the beginning, but gets more and more robotic after a while. The chorus is maybe the most catchy one of the record. Brilliant song! "Before" clearly is the 'ballad' of this record, and it definitely is an impressive one! Beautiful lyrics with cold samples and some orchestral keys here and there make this song one to remember when I am in the mood for ballads. "Freedom" is in my opinion the most powerful track of the record. Killer dancefloor hits guaranteed! Try to listen to this song without to move your feet, I challenge you! The album ends with a good cyber remix of the song "The Other Side", done by Argentinian neofolk band Lamia. A perfect mix is made here of the styles of both the bands. Well, what is left to be said? Every lyric has a message, every song stands decent. This is one of the few bands who managed to create an own style on their debut album already. Vigilante has released its first attempt on world domination, but first you need to discover this band. Oh, and there is also a nice bonus video of "One Good Reason" left to be discovered!
