Artist: ZWEIZZ
Album: The Yawn Of The New Age
Year: 2007
Straight from the Norwegian underground comes Zweizz.
This one man project says to make heavy industrial
sounds with black metal influences. So far, only a 7”
has been released (according to their website, that
looked surprisingly gentle compared with the music), but
the new album “The Yawn Of The New Age” will be released
on March 24, 2007 via the very famous (!?) label Vendlus
Records.
Musically, this all is just a weird mix of crazy sounds...
well, when you’re in the jury of Idols that is. This
stuff clearly needs a closer listen than that, so I gave
it one. There are ambient parts, dark industrial parts
and some wicked electronic samples all wrapped together
in an insane package. For example, ‘Rævkjørt’ (I have no
idea what it means, so don’t send me email messages!)
starts with just a sound that your speakers make when
they are broke, but the closer you reach the end, the
more wicked samples are added. In the end, the song
transformed into something sick and macabre that could
fit in any Dario Argento movie with ease! ‘Nowadays Only
The Boring Everything Is So Frustrating’ is probably the
song with the most black metal influences, referring to
the sick beat and the sampling that looks a little bit
like pitched vocals now and then. ‘Your System Sucks’
has a punky track title, orchestral works in the
beginning and crazy programming after about a minute.
The tunes that accompany this programming are mad, and
not appropriate to listen to when your four year old
brother is in the same room, trying to sleep... because
it’ll cause nightmares for sure! The final minute of
this track really gets you in extacy, with the black
metal vocals and the thrilling key works! ‘Catacomb’ is
more electro based, with easy listening though very dark
sampling and a very downtuned outro. This shows a
different, more electronic and accessible side of this
band, which was (after hearing the other songs) quite
some positive surprise to me.
This album contains 13 tracks, but reviewing them all
would make a ten mile review which nobody wants to read,
so I just picked my four favourites. Please do not get
me wrong, I like the other tracks on the album too, but
these four were just my personal favourites. Though to
be honest, this wasn’t really what I expected when I saw
the description “heavy industrial sounds with black
metal influences”. I was more waiting for something like
Herrschaft or Terrodrown in stead, so it was a nice
surprise for me hearing these tunes instead. This kind
of stuff is not really the thing I listen to daily, but
when I am in the right mood I really appreciate this
kind of stuff. And for Zweizz, I dare to say that the
talent has been proven to me with this release. For
people who are familiar with projects like ZNO, Society
Hates, Glaukom Synod and DDG: I suggest you to give this
a try... and expect the unexpected, because this music
is organised sounds!
