Artist: BROKEN CULTURE
Album: The Horrible Sounds In My Head
Year: 2006
Well well, what do we have here? It’s the new release of
Broken Culture. Of who? Well, let me explain. Broken
Culture is a one man project done by Dave Mosicant from
the U.S.A., who says to make industrial rock. He
released already a concept album ‘Fake World’ in 2005,
and apperantly he wasn’t out of inspiration at all,
because one single year after the debut there is already
a new release out! ‘The Horrible Sounds In My Head’ is
the lovely name given to this piece, which contains five
tracks.
‘Losing Self’ is the first song of this record. It
contains harsh beats, a dreamy synthline and raw guitars.
The vocals are agressive, and do kind of fit to the
music in a good way. There are some easy listening parts
in it, but most of the time the song sounds like a
chaotic hurricane of all kinds of machines. The outro of
this song is beautiful. ‘Deeper In The Pit’ is an easy
listening and more atmospheric piece. The beats are
slowly though bashing, while there is a lot of cold
sampling in this track. The lyrics (which are a bit
depressing to say the least) and the soft and clean
vocals fits this track perfectly. ‘030’ is more brutal
again. Agressive guitarwork and smashing blastbeats are
clearly the spine of this song, but the vocals and the
sampling don’t have any difficulties to follow. This all
makes this track to the best one of this record in my
opinion. ‘The True Face’ is a track I didn’t really
expect to hear from this project on this album. It
reminds me strongly to Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate
Machine-era but with some more harsh EBM and
experimental works on it. Nice track though. The EP ends
with an instrumental track, which could fit in any
horror movie with ease. In the end, I must admit that I
really enjoyed listening to Broken Culture, and I am
already looking forward to hear some new stuff of mister
Dave!
