Artist: RICHARD CHRIST
Album: UltraViolent Messiah
Year: 2006

Richard Christ is a pretty young Italian band. According to the biography, the band is named after the vocalist, who has toured all around the world with his preverious band ´Posthuman´. On this new project, he is accompanied by two of his friends, and this threesome says to mix rock and metal with industrial and glam. Their first proof of existence is a five track demo/EP called ´UltraViolent Messiah´, which was released in 2006.

´Call Me´ is the first track of the release. This track is build upon an EBM/synthpop based spine, mixed with distortion guitarwork and catchy vocal lines. The track is quite easy listening and danceable. ´An American Christ´ is the next track. This one contains more heavy guitarparts than the preverious one, although this track is more rock than metal based. Don´t be surprised to hear some rock ´n´ roll influences here and there too. ´Angels´ is more of the sensitive kind, with a different guitar effect and vocal tones. Maybe the most easy listening track of the album. ´Revolution Drugs´ contains some very cool industrial sampling and some surprisingly heavy guitarparts. Overall this song is dark and gentle. ´Eyes´ is the final track on this release. This track contains major glam and industrial influences, and it´s easy listening attitude makes this one a good last song of this release.

This release would have been a refreshing one if this band started their carreer about twenty years ago. Unfortunately for them, nowadays releases like this are not that unique anymore. Lots of bands say to be influenced by 80´s rock and newer industrial bands like Marilyn Manson and Rammstein, so they translate this into ´borrowing´ lots of stuff from their masters. Richard Christ does the same (specially the vocals – which is not this weird since he used to sing in a Marilyn Manson tribute band), but to be honest, they did it in a good way. So far the music is more than accepteable, but they must be guarding themselves to not turn into copycats of the band that influenced them the most.
