Artist: IMPURE
DOMAIN
Album: Universal Murder Promo
Year: 2007
Italian industrial black metal formation Impure Domain
is already building it’s way up high for quite some time
in the underground scene. Although their most recent
release ‘HIV Parade’ is already three years old, it
still settles itself in my CD player every now and then.
It has been pretty silent around Impure Domain the last
time, until I recieved this four-track promo release,
which is meant as a teaser for what we will be expecting
in the near future (and since it’s called Universal
Murder Promo, maybe also a new release called Universal
Murder?).
‘Inhale/Infest’ is the first track of this promo. It’s
an experimental track, with weird FX/sampling, crazy
programming works and black/death metal guitar- and
vocalwork. In the middle of the track lays the heart of
the track, with crazy guitarwork and sampling combined
as one chaotic manifest. ‘Mutant Bacteria’ is more
brutal, with extreme though old school influenced
programming, recogniseable vocal lines and some very
wicked black metal guitarwork. The industrial sampling
on this track bring a little more atmosphere to the
breaks and intermezzo’s, which is of course a good thing.
‘Of Nails, Razors and Ropes’ comes up next. In my
opinion, this track is the best of this promo. It
contains different uptempo and downtempo parts, very
industrialized (even future pop influenced) synthlines
and sampling and extremely wicked programming. The
guitarparts are mostly atmospheric, although there’s
some crazy stuff hidden here and there too, while the
vocal lines make the package all more accessable. ‘The
Iron Beast’ is the final track on this four-track promo
release. It’s the most accessable track of the release,
with midtempo and downtempo musical parts, easy going
vocal lines and some old school metal influences all
over. However, the track isn’t different from the others
when it comes to decent songwriting and a good
atmosphere.
Compared to the old Impure Domain stuff, these new
tracks sound more refreshing and experimental. The
industrial sounds are more present than before, and the
programming is more wicked and crazy than ever. Fans of
the old stuff of Impure Domain might be a little shocked
at first, but if they like Blacklodge’s ‘SolarKult’
album the shock will quickly transform in a pleasant
surprise. The only downside on this promo release is
that it just contains four tracks...
