Artist: [DIGI]CORE
Album: V1.0 Promo
Year: 2006

The industrial virus has not only infected metal these days, but also punk. Bands like Punish Yourself, Brutalizzed Kids, Latexxx Teens and Dope Stars Inc already booked succes with their ‘cyber-punkish’ style and attitude, and nowadays in England is something happening too because of the young band [Digi]core. Their first release is called V1.0, which is nothing but a simple demo/promo that is mainly distributed at gigs. But, IndustrializedMetal.tk would not be IndustrializedMetal.tk if we would not be able to review this one! Muhahahaha!

When you ask me how to describe this release in one word, I’d say experimental. It seems like this band tries to mix anything with punk, and when I say anything I mean literally anything! A bit of the blastbeats touch in ‘Psalm 666 (Slavery At The Hands Of God)’, a bit of the hardstyle touch in ‘(Bitch)Lyrical’ and some harsh EBM/ambient stuff is clearly hidden in ‘Bleached Innocence’ and ‘Vacant Headspace (Someone Elses Song)’. These songs sound pretty contrary compared with songs like ‘Resist’, which can be described as a no nonsense industrial rock song. No lack of variation clearly, but there are more positive things to say about [Digi]core. A song like ‘Pigs Inc.’ for example. The title already gives a small impression of a possible Nine Inch Nails touch (mix March of the Pigs and Starfuckers Inc. for example, and you have this title), the song is not much different. Whipping up industrial metal music which can be easely compared with the more brutal tracks of Nine Inch Nails. And there is another song which I like to say a few more words about. As I said earlier in this review, ‘Vacant Headspace (Someone Elses Song)’ is more EBM based, but there is way more. Some surprising guitarwork and punky NIN-likely vocals give this song something extra, which made it my favourite song of this release. Think of a mix between Combichrist/TamTrum and Punish Yourself... just excellent! In the end, I would just like to add that all songs are decently build and this band clearly has found an own particular style, but it is just not convincing enough if you ask me. A really nice first try, but I am sure that they will improve more in the future!
