Artist: ZARDONIC
Album: Chaotic Serenity
Year: 2008

The first time I heard about Zardonic was when they did the submission for the F**k Em All - Volume 2 compilation, with the track 'Chaotic Serenity'. It turned out to be a sick industrial black metal track, but already the news was there that this was one of his rare non drum 'n' bass tracks. Because of the good replies on that particular track, Zardonic and Death To Music decided to do a full release not too long after. 'Chaotic Serenity' is the given name to it, and it comes with seven tracks.

'Panzerkrieg' opens with a dark sounding intro, to be followed by a quite accessable track. It includes drum 'n' bass drumming, pure black metal riffing and desperate black metal screams - as well some wicked electronic sampling. 'Irreligious' opens with a Spanish intro, to be followed by a crazy uptempo track. It has riffing that lays inbetween old school black metal and doom metal, it has the same icy screams as the preverious track, but this track is mostly driven by the wicked, uptempo and crazy drumming (which is clearly drum 'n' bass influenced again). The little "intermezzo" with the more bashing drums fit the song excellently. 'Let Them Die' is a bit more experimental when it comes to the drumming. It switches from drum 'n' bass to industrial metal programming, all the time accompanied by dark atmospheric riffing. 'Praise The Black Sun' comes up next. It has powerful drumming, wicked synthlines and black metal riffing - resulting in an industrial black metal track with influences from drum 'n' bass and wave. 'Triarchy Of Shadows' is the most metal based song on the release. It contains again drum 'n' bass programming works, very wicked sampling and icy synth lines, but the track is mostly driven on the powerful riffing. It's a great uptempo track, which is even a bit danceable. 'Doomed to Nihility' is the shortest track on the release. It switches from industrial black metal to sludgy passages, without losing the original atmosphere. It's probably the most powerful track on the release, and it clearly contains the fastest drumming. 'Ba(al)silic Reactor' is already the final track on the release. It's a more downtempo track, with heavy distorted guitarwork and gentle drumming.

'Chaotic Serenity' turned out to be a surprisingly fresh and original release. With ease, Zardonic manages to throw black metal, doom metal, even a little bit of death metal, wave, industrial and drum 'n' bass in a blender, just to spin it around for 37 minutes by 200 miles per hour. The result is an excellent experimental album that shows no weak points. And another good part - you can get it just for free on www.deathtomusic.com! Only for raw rebels though...

Both metal and drum 'n' bass - stabbed in the back!
