Long time ago, in 1998 year, Dmitry "Diamond" Serkin left away locally popular at that time PAINFUL MEMORIES doom metal band because of creative disagreements. He left away to realize his own creative vision in the solo project. But it become possible only in 2002 - participation in various bands (MISTERIA, SCHIZOPHRENIA etc.) during 1998-2001 years did not give him an opportunity to concentrate on own creativity. But finally in 2002 the first album of STAGNATUS project - Diamond's solo project - was released under "ULTIMA THULE" title. The ULTIMA THULE material was made within several years. It was a hard stage of creative development during which out-of-date stereotypes were broken and new approaches were developed. And it found its reflection in music: the album's music style is undetermined. It represents a transitive stage from metal music (black metal, doom metal, death metal mainly) to electronic gothic music (ebm, industrial, darkwave, ambient). Such a synthesis is absolutely noncommercial, but nevertheless ULTIMA THULE music may become interesting to inquisitive people, who do not imprison themselves by little range of music styles, who are not afraid of new influences, who have enough flexible mind. The spirit of the album is sustained in heroic-epic style: In different times there were people finding inspiration for fight in various religions and having different spiritual values depending on nathionality, geographical location and time. Accordingly the basic tracks of the album are devoted to various folks, religions and events - from ancient slavs to crusaders, from pagan gods to Jesus etc. ULTIMA THULE music does not propagandize any ideology. The basic idea of the album is that sincere Belief - no matter in whom - is capable to inspire feats (here it is necessary to be stipulated - a correctness of this statement depends of concrete historical conditions, but for the art we simply believe that it is true). And at all times each spiritual man aspired to find a dream that personified for him an ideal of all in what he believed. On the album the symbol of such an ideal, a dream is unattainable Ultima Thule island... The Analogue to Ultima Thule existed in mythologies and religions of many peoples, but here was chosen greek name, designating "Extreme Island" or something like that. It is a certain ground on Far North of the World, the empire of gods where is possible to live eternally, not knowing any troubles. But a way to this Island is too long and thorny... The next album is released in 2005 under AGONIZATION title. The stylistics of the album strongly differs from ULTIMA THULE - electronic sound dominates much more. The album contains 10 tracks with range of styles from synth pop to darkwave that reflects Diamond's musical preferences at that moment. Such a coctail is extremely non-commercial and Diamond made a resolve do not to seek for a label to print AGONIZATION. Album is available in a promo CD format, all rights is reserved by Diamond and STAGNATUS.
